Yale’s Nicholas Wolterstorff to Speak at Brehm Inaugural Lecture
Theologian Nicholas Wolterstorff of Yale University and artist-scholar Marcia McFee will be featured at Fuller’s inaugural Brehm Lecture, to be held Tuesday, November 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The two will lecture and dialogue on the topic "Just Art: The Place of Arts in the Ethical Formation of Christian Disciples": Wolterstorff from the perspective of a theologian interested in art; McFee as an artist interested in theology.
The event, to be held at Fuller’s Pasadena campus, is the first in a new series of lectures sponsored by Fuller’s Brehm Center for Worship, Theology, and the Arts.
The lecture and dialogue will also be streamed live. Those interested can simply go here on November 3 at 10:00 a.m. Viewers can also follow the lecture on Twitter (@brehmcenter) and send the speakers their questions, which they will work to include in the question-and-answer time.
As part of the inaugural lecture day’s events, a special concert event will also be offered by the Brehm Center the same day, Tuesday, November 3, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. The Fuller Vocal Ensemble will offer the debut performance of "Jubilate! An Ancient-Future Concert Mass," an original composition by Ed Willmington, director of the Fred Bock Institute of Music. The performance will also feature original choreography by Marcia McFee, and will be followed by a reflection by Dr. Wolterstorff on "The Sound of Faith."
Nicholas Wolterstorff, the Noah Porter Professor of Philosophical Theology Emeritus at Yale, teaches and writes on the philosophy of religion, political philosophy, epistemology, and art and aesthetics. He has authored many books in these areas, including Art in Action: Towards a Christian Aesthetic and, more recently, Justice: Rights and Wrongs. Marcia McFee is an author, worship designer and leader, and artist. She has provided worship design and leadership at numerous national and regional gatherings, integrating her experience in professional companies of music, theater, and dance with a variety of worship and preaching styles.
